Warding Off Mosquitos & Sand Fleas

I think we all can agree that bugs are one of our least favorite parts of camping and being outside, especially the ones that bite us! Nothing is worse than trying to enjoy a campfire or a nice picnic dinner at your site and constantly having to swat them away. The two main culprits I’m referring to are mosquitoes and sand fleas. Fortunately, I have learned two things that keep these critters away and you only need 4 simple items: 2 Spray Bottles, a bottle of Listerine Mint Mouthwash, and bottle of Pine-sol (or eucalyptus oil for a more natural spray). For starters, mosquitoes HATE mint! Pour the Listerine into a spray bottle and spray away! Spray your site, spray yourself, spray the kids and spray the pets! The mint not only smells better than the regular bug spray, but it is also just as effective, if not more effective! And the best part is there are no harsh chemicals! Sand fleas are a bit trickier, but this method has worked with campers in the past; pour the Pine-Sol into the other spray bottle and spray the ground around your campsite (DO NOT SPRAY THE CHILDREN OR THE PETS unless you’re using the eucalyptus and if you have pets or young children, it’s best to use eucalyptus as it will get on their paws or hands when walking or crawling around the site.) This will ward off sand fleas in that area and you won’t have those nasty little bites on your legs! Hope this helps and happy camping!
